In addition to the fun and games at the top end of Segunda B, this weekend also saw the first legs of the Relegation Play-offs, which will determine which two clubs will join the 16 teams that were relegated at the end of the regular season.
On Saturday night, Real Zaragoza played UB Conquense at a near empty La Romareda. The match was switched from the club's Ciudad Deportiva and this had the desired effect on the home team, who won thanks to a goal from Javi Martinez three minutes from time. The teams now head to Cuenca and Conquense's recently rebuilt stadium for the decisive second leg.
Sunday saw Lorca Atletico travel to Palencia, and it was the team from the Region of Murcia who made all the early running. Palencia hung on until half-time and was much improved in the second half. They took the lead in 50th minute after Jandro converted a dubiously awarded penalty. Durantez added a second 13 minutes later with a low drive through a crowded penalty area. Palencia came close to adding to their total on a couple of occasions and head to Lorca with a decent advantage.
I'll post details of next weekend's matches on Monday 28th when I'll reveal the identity of the two doomed teams!
